BOB KING/DON GILBERT INVITATIONAL AT GRANITE BAY HS SATURDAY MARCH 11TH, 2006 The Davis High School track and field team traveled to Granite Bay High School on Saturday, March 11 for the Bob King Don Gilbert Invitational. Out of the eighteen schools represented, the JV boys finished 11th, the JV girls finished 5th, the varsity boys finished 6th, and the varsity girls emerged with a 2nd place overall finish. Junior thrower Lauren Guerrieri re-broke the school shot put record with a 35-01.50 toss. She also finished first in the discuss throw with an impressive 134-09. Sophomore Jonah Weeks placed first in the 3200m with an outstanding time of 11:44.45. Junior Chelsea Reilly finished second the 800m (2:24.33) and third in the 1600m (5:11.78) before anchoring the 4x400m relay team of Karen Ding, Ebony Smith, and Cheyenne Feliz to a second place effort. Freshman Melinda Zavala took second in the JV 400m with a time of 65.47. Lucy Pagel finished second in the 3200m and fourth in the 1600m. The boys also enjoyed a successful day. Junior Brendan Gregg raced to an exciting first place victory in the 3200m with a blazing 9:36.00, re-breaking his own meet record set last year. Senior hurdler Abas Jemal took first in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.96. He then took second in the 300m hurdles with a time of 41.36. Come watch the Blue Devils take on Vacaville High School on Wednesday in their home opener. The meet begins at Davis High School at 3:30pm.
