Accompanied by a much larger distance squad, the DHS sprinters and hurdlers brought a small group to the prestigious Woody Wilson Invitational on Friday, April 16. One of the many Blue Devil highlights took place in the boy’s 400m hurdles; a race normally reserved for college level competition. Sophomore hurdlers Abas Jemal and Matt Solomon became the first Blue Devil athletes to compete in this notoriously difficult event. Jemal, at 59.83, edged out Solomon, at 62.12, to become the Davis High School record-holder in the 400m hurdles. The meet culminated with the boys and girls 4x400m Relay, which took place at 9:15p.m. under the lights at Toomy Field. Both teams turned in fantastic, season-best efforts against some of northern California’s toughest competition.
