Sac Joaquin Section Division 1 Championships

Congratulations to the boys team for winning the SJS D1 Section Championship!

Ray Oldham had another awesome day. He is your SJS D1 champion in the high jump. He also finished second in the long jump and third in the 200m at 22.39.

Also competing in the high jump, Jason Arendt and Alex Valcarenghi tied for 3rd place.

Bella Bitners is your SJS D1 girl’s discus champ, and Andrew Baum is your SJS boys discus champ! So that’s a DHS sweep in the disc! Way to go Bella and Andrew! Way to go, Coach Matt and Coach Kale too!

Ben Feyrer surprised the triple jump field with a second-place finish. Ben was the highest placing sophomore in the competition by far.

Athlete/Coach Will Siemens cleared 14’6” to take fourth in the pole vault.

The boys 4x4 of Ryan Jaramillo, Bryce Barker, Sam Moody, and Trajan Clark surprised the field by jumping up to 4th place with a season best time of 44.06.

It was an awesome day for Zach Ayers, who completed the very difficult 1600m/3200m double victory. That’s right, Zach is the SJS D1 champ in the 1600m and the 3200m. The 1600m was particularly dramatic, when Zach edged out Jesuit’s Braden King by four one-hundredths of a second. Ryan Mitchell took fourth in that race, ahead of Jesuit’s Brandon Moreno. Like Zach, Ryan doubled back in the 3200 to take 6th.

In the 110 hurdles, Scott Inouye has been battling Pleasant Grove’s Stephen Dahdough all year long. The cast came off, and Scott beat Stephen by seven one thousandths of a second, taking 2nd place overall. Scotty-too-hotty!

Maya Yikilmaz, the only 9th grader in the competition, took second place at 58.72.

The team called upon Clay Ballard to attempt a challenging feat: The 400m/300 hurdle challenge. Clay finished 5th in both.

Emma Vogt took 3rd overall against a talented field in the 200m dash with a pr of 25.68.

The boys 4x4 finished the day with a fourth-place finish. Between trials and finals, we ran all six of our legs: Jake Schaal, Clay Ballard, Lucas Tam, Bryce Barker, Sam Moody, and LJ Dixon. Congrats to all six of these guys.

Additional Masters qualifiers: Cullen Javers in the girls pole vault; Sophia Ramirez in the discus; Sophia Ballard in the triple jump; Chloe Barr, Emma Vogt, Sophia Young, and Maya Yikilmaz in the 4x1 relay; Connor Cougevan in the 1600; Norah Dulaney in the 800; and Lucas Tam in the 800.

Here's what went down at finals:

On the frosh/soph girls side, check out the day that Sierra Babtiste had: 13.08 in the 100m (2nd), 26.62 in the 200m (1st), 16'4.75" in the long jump (1st), and a leg on the 3rd place 4x100m relay. Wow! Izzy Cherry won the 100h and took second in the 300h. Brynn Vikstrom was the high jump champ! The girls put up 173 points over second place Franklin with 105.

In the f/s boys competition, Jefferson Wright and Tomas Ferns went 1-2 in the 1600m. Tim McMahon, Beckett Dolan, and Ryan Yetman went first through third in the 800m - awesome team victory there! The boys 4x4 of Ben Tuttle, Elijah Alexander, Tim McMahon (16/8/4x4 triple), and LJ Dixon ran to emphatic victory. LJ had a great day overall. The boys won192-150 over Jesuit.

Bella Bitners is the varsity girls discus champ! The girls won the meet without any other first place finishes. We had tons of great marks though. Norah Dulaney battled St. Francis' stable of distance girls in the 1600m and 800m. The sprint relays ran great as well, a 48.91 for the 4x1. When a meet comes down to just seven points, every effort is critical. Way to go! The girls won 150 to 143 over rival Saint Francis.

Ray Ray Oldham scored 35 points, including first place finishes in the long jump, high jump, and 200m. Awesome. Jake Schaal, Clay Ballard, Bryce Barker, and Lucas Tam finished off the last race of the day with a victory in te 4x400m relay. Lucas Tam deserves a shot out for the very challenging 16/8/4x4 triple. The boys won 215 to 135 over second place Jesuit.
